In October of 2002 I attended the Photography at the Summit workshop sponsored by Rich Clarkson Photography in Jackson, Wyoming. It was a week to savor. It was also the first time I had the chance to use a digital SLR and after a week of experimenting with a Nikon D100, I came home and bought one. In addition to getting to use all the Nikon equipment we wanted, we also got instruction and critique from Michael "Nick" Nichols, Tom Mangelsen, James Hill, and Jack Dykinga among others.

Here a group of workshop participants follow Tom Mangelsen around the Tetons looking for wildlife and mountain light.

On Thursday afternoon I went out with Jack Dykinga to this streambed where we talked about how he sets up for his large format landscapes and scouted the area for shot possibilities. We spent a couple of hours planning a dawn shoot for the next morning that really didn't work out because of cloud cover.
